Sales of homes in California increases from a year ago
California home sales were up last month from a year ago.
The Associated Press reports that last month’s sales of new and preowned homes increased 13.6 percent from August 2007. Nearly half of the homes sold last month, 46.9 percent, were foreclosed properties, the wire service said MDA DataQuick reported this week.
Overall, 37,988 new and preowned homes were sold in August, MDA DataQuick said.
Meanwhile, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steven Preston says in a story in the Christian Science Monitor that it will probably be the middle of next year or well into next year before “we begin to see more consistency in buyers coming back into the marketplace.”
He cautioned, however, that it will be “some time” before recovery comes to certain areas of California, Nevada, Arizona and Florida, the newspaper reported.
